Mithun Chakraborty, commonly known as Mithun Da in the Indian film business, is an experienced, powerful, and famous actor. He is a singer, producer, writer, social worker, entrepreneur, anchor, and former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, in addition to being an actor. Wiki Biography

Mithun was born Gourang Chakraborty on June 16, 1950, into a Hindu-Bengali household in Barisal, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He and his family currently reside in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. He received the most of his education in Kolkata and received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Scottish Church College in Kolkata. He joined the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, India, after finishing his degree. Few people knew that he was a Naxalite before entering the film industry, and that he was a buddy of popular Naxalite Ravi Ranjan till the mid-1970s. As a result of recent occurrences at home, He was compelled to leave the Naxal movement and began hunting for work in the movie industry.

In the late 1970s, he was in a relationship with actress Sarika (Kamal Haasan’s second wife), but they eventually parted up. Sarika is alleged to have left Mithun for unexplained reasons.

After leaving Sarika, he had a brief romance with Helena Luke.

He married Indian actress Yogeeta Bali (Kishore Kumar’s third wife) in 1979, and they have four children: three sons (Mahaakshay Chakraborty aka Mimoh, Ushmey Chakraborty, Namashi Chakraborty) and a daughter (Dishani Chakraborty).

Mithun had a love affair with renowned actress Sridevi in the 1980s. They met on the set of Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Jaag Utha Insa’ (1984) and secretly married in 1985, which Mithun subsequently admitted to the media when their marriage certificate was revealed in a ‘Fan’ magazine. In 1988, he divorced his ex-wife Yoggeta Bali and returned to her.



Mithun Da began acting in 1976 with the film “Mrigaya,” for which he received the National Film Award for Best Actor. He appeared in over 400 films. He reigned Bollywood in the 1980s with films like “Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye,” “Ghar Ek Mandir,” “Pyaar Jhukta Nahin,” “Swarag Se Sunder,” and “Pyaar Ka Mandir,” and he hasn’t looked back in his long career. His reputation soared after the release of the film “Disco Dancer” in 1982. His dance moves from the song “Disco Dancer” are still popular today.

He worked in Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Kannada, and Tamil films in addition to Bollywood. In 1982, he made his debut in the Bengali cinema business with the film ‘Troyee.’ In the categories of Best and Supporting Actor, he won multiple National Film Awards. In 2007, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Role Model of the Year Award in the same year.

He is well-known not only for his work on the big screen, but also for his work on the tiny screen. He hosted the dance reality show “Dance Bangla Dance” and then created the concept for the most famous dance reality show on Zee TV, “Dance India Dance.” He was the Grand Master of the ‘Dance India Dance Li’l Masters’ organisation. He has also presented reality series including as Zee Bangla’s ‘Dadagiri Unlimited,’ Bigg Boss (Bengali version), and ETV Bangla’s ‘Rannaghore Rockstar.’ He is currently working on Sony TV’s comedy sitcom “The Drama Company” (as of 2018).


He was elected to the Rajya Sabha for West Bengal on 7 February 2014, after being nominated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee; however, he resigned on 26 December 2016.

He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on March 7, 2021, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (BJP).


Mithun was the Panasonic electronics ambassador for India in the 1980s. He is the face of a number of well-known brands, including GoDaddy, Channel 10, and West Bengal’s Manappuram Gold Loan.
